History
The Melaka Zoo was developed on a 22-hectare site in Ayer Keroh, in 1963. Initially, the Melaka Zoo was administered by the Melaka State Government and then the management of the Melaka Zoo was taken over by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) in 1979 and later taken over by the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council. Opened to the public by the then Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohammad on 13 August 1987. Now the zoo was privatised in 2013 under the control of Konsortium KKW Sdn Bhd.

After paying the entrance fee we meet macaws and cockatoos. On the left side we se a house with primates like ringtailed lemurs. At the petting zoo we have rabbits, goats and other animals. Across we find white rhinos, malayan tapirs. At the giraffes we turn right and having the free flight aviaries with sun conures and birds of paradise. Across we are having a reptile house. Turning right back to the giraffes we see zebras, Kafue lechwe and other antilopes. Across we have the Banteng. Then we turn right see swamp deer, ostriches and cassowaries. Next comes the feline corner with tiger, lion and panthers. Following to path to the right again we pass the otter enclosure and see crocodyles. Across are aviaries with birds and binturongs. Above we have an area with gibbons like the siamang and the agile gibbon. Next to it we have orang utans and chimpanzees. In this area we also have sunbears. Following the path we then meet elephants, porcupines and the serow. Next to it is another reptile house. The last enclosure is for the Bawean deer.
